Are you a leader or a manager? This course explores the similarities and differences between leaders and managers, including when each style is appropriate and needed as well as the activities and skills that comprise both. Focusing on basic management theories and expanding into discussions regarding who is a 'good leader", a student's knowledge of the effectiveness of an organization's motivational strategies will be enhanced. In MGT 850, a student will learn to think outside of the box and accept change as inevitable in order to influence organizational culture. By creating a work environment that encourages employees to act ethically, engage in organizational citizenship behaviors, and build organizational cultures that view differences as assets, a leader can be the change agent necessary to spark the organization to deal with various issues. The challenge in MGT 850 is balancing the importance of discussing the various leadership styles and the reality of managing your workforce. This course emphasizes understanding of the concepts necessary for improved employee performance in the area of management conflict, team building, and management competencies as well as in developing and implementing employee reward systems. Course Prerequisites:
MGT 300 or MGT 821 or equivalent each with a minimum grade of "B-".
